The future of media

Time Magazine iPad App

It’s not very often I stumble upon a press release, new product or demo video that truly rattles my cage. What you see in this demo of Time Magazine’s new tablet application is a glimpse of what the future of news and media will look like for the foreseeable future. Watch the video after the jump.

For the first time in a long time – I’m blown away. The copycats will be fast on the heels of this app, and I believe that’s a good thing. Funny…maybe Steve Jobs did know something about the future.

Here’s a “making of” video which demonstrates the app on the Apple Ipad.

I would be even better if not for the fact that wasn’t a real tablet. It’s a fake mock-up to make it look good. The real shame is that it is shown in widescreen when the only tablet out that even works like that isn’t widescreen. In reality, it will be cluttered, slow, and likely to suck power like crazy.

that aside though, it’s a nice step in the right direction for digital magazines and such. it’s just that the advertising is poor.

@RenK – True, the demo is far more impressive in HD (16:9) and does give it a better than reality look. That said, just seeing the concept fleshed out like this really illustrates that the big media companies will be redefining what “traditional media” means. I see it as the genesis of a new standard.
