Faster Internet for Alaska?

Rumor has it that GCI is talking about a significant speed increase in their cable modem products. The word is that speeds as high as 10Mb/s down with 1Mb/s up are scheduled to hit sometime soon. I assume that this means GCI is again pioneering the new cable modem standards as they have done in the past. Comcast recently announced their plans at CES 2008 to make 100Gb/s internet access via their cable network using DOCSIS 3.0. GCI Hijacks Customer Browsers

DNS redirections, how annoying

User generated Alaska

User generated content or consumer generated media (CGM)… has definitely arrived in the Last Frontier. User generated content is nothing brand new, especially with the huge success of big players such as YouTube, GoogleVideo and my favorite up-and-comerBrightcove. The impact of this media is finally reaching the old-media groups. It seems everyone wants a piece of your mind (and the free content they can use to capture an audience for their own gain). Alaska technorati

Mobile Geek

Alaska certainly has its share of geeks, techies and entrepreneurial minds. The FrigidGeek blog run by a local high school student (Tyler) is dedicated to the mobile lifestyle. He shares some of the same frustrations I’ve briefly covered in my posts about the lack of competitive options in Alaska. Continue reading
