We\'re not idiots

Yet again, the ISP choices in Alaska show their lack of timeliness and professionalism. For some of you who may not know what DNS does, it’s basically the phonebook that tells your browser where to find any website by its name “websitename.com”. DNS entries are updated when people move their sites from one server to another or when a new domain name is created. For some unknown reason, GCI insists on a very slow refresh of that “directory” which makes it especially painful for someone who is trying to setup their new website (like this blog for example). I either have to manually setup my DNS to use another service instead of GCI’s DNS or some other lame Proxy tool such as Proxify (www.proxify.com) to get to my site. GCI seems to delay the update of their DNS by at least 24-48 hours, which in this author’s opinion is unacceptable.

This post finally went up thanks to OpenDNS. Definitely worth checking out.

Is this just a random rant about the lameness of Alaska’s Internet options? You bet it is, and it was worth every minute of my time to share this lameness with you.
