About

My Alaska News is a blog site focused primarily on Alaska business, technology and geek related news. Myalaska.net was created by and operated by me, Kevin Kastner.

Other topics
As my interest in politics, religion and social topics continue to boil internally – you may see them begin to spill over into this news blog. Be afraid. Haha!

About the author
I came to Alaska for the first time in 1984 to spend the summer with family. From then on, I spent nearly every other summer in Alaska until 1996 when I decide to move here permanently. Since then I have worked for several Alaska companies including Internet Alaska, Alaska USA FCU and GCI. In 2000 and again in late 2005, I have moved out of Alaska for a few gigs including a stint at Starbucks as a new media/web dev project manager.

My company
In 2007 I started a production and development company focused on podcasting – specifically, Alaska HDTV. New directions and a few other lessons later, I moved away from this company in January 2010.

I’m now freelancing on other new products and a “gun for hire”.

My projects
In between contract projects, I have been working on a few other things…

Quirky – A social product development firm.
I’m working on becoming a strong influencer at Quirky. That and I have submitted my own ideas for new products. Using this as a springboard for some other product ideas…more on that later.

Bannrads.com – Simple one stop for banner ad design and similar Facebook ads, etc.
Role: Freelancing as a sales, PR and part-time designer.

Popchair Creative – Creative think tank and graphic design firm.
Role: Originally a co-founder, but have handed it over to my partner to pursue.

Mechbox.com – A blog and podcast for DIY airsoft repairs.
Note: (Slowly winding down due to almost zero income generation – it was fun while it lasted!)

More to come…
